THE RUPEE: all-round fall

KARACHI (July 30, 2010): Bearish sentiment was seen on the local currency market on Thursday as the rupee drifted lower versus dollar and euro, dealers said. On the interbank market the rupee continued its overnight weakness versus dollar, losing six paisa for buying at 85.65 and shedding seven paisa at 85.70 for selling, they said.

Revised Rates of Debt Securities

KARACHI (July 30, 2010): The following were the revised rates of debt securities on Thursday (July 29, 2010).




No change likely in policy rate
KARACHI (July 30, 2010): The State Bank of Pakistan will unveil Monetary Policy Statement (MPS) on Friday (July 29), with expectations of no change in key policy rate owing to persistent inflationary pressure on the economy. The central bank's board of directors will meet at the SBP head office prior to the policy announcement and review the monetary policy for the next two months.



Relief package for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Fata, Pata: SBP extends deadline for submission of claims
KARACHI (July 30, 2010): The State Bank of Pakistan on Thursday extended the deadline to August 16, 2010 for submission of claims by banks/DFIs/MFBs under the Prime Minister's Fiscal Relief Package to rehabilitate economic life in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (Pata).



MoF plans to keep fiscal deficit at four percent: IMF review talks due on August 23
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): "We have to achieve some milestones such as asking provinces to reduce their deficits by mobilising more revenue and to cut some expenditures and increasing revenue by the federal government," Secretary Finance Salman Siddique said. The Finance Ministry is focusing fully on achieving macro stability.



Banking Court Faisalabad
LAHORE (July 30, 2010): The ministry of law and parliamentary affairs has appointed Sessions Judge Suhaib Roomi as judge Banking Court Faisalabad. The Lahore High Court (LHC) has placed his services at the disposal of federal government for his appointment in Banking Court.
