Swedish envoy calls on CoAS
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): Swedish Ambassador to Pakistan Ulrika Sundberg, on Thursday called on Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, at General Headquarters Rawalpindi. The visiting dignitary remained with him for some time and discussed the matters of mutual interest.



ISI 'changing' on Afghanistan: Biden
WASHINGTON (July 30, 2010): US Vice President Joe Biden said in an interview aired Thursday that Pakistan's intelligence agency was "changing" in its behaviour towards Afghanistan, following leaked claims it aided extremists. Biden downplayed documents which suggested that between 2004 and 2009, elements of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), armed, trained and financed the Taliban despite Islamabad's anti-terror alliance with Washington.



Zardari for early completion of probe
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday directed for early completion of the probe to ascertain the real causes of the air crash incident that resulted in heavy loss of precious human lives. President was talking to Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr.



President signs Islamabad High Court Bill, 2010
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday accorded his assent to Islamabad High Court Bill, 2010, for establishing of a High Court for Islamabad Capital Territory. The assent was accorded during a signing ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr. Federal Minister for Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan, Attorney General for Pakistan former Justice Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq and Secretary Law Division Muhammad Masood Chishti were also present on the occasion.



Flash floods, storms kill over 200 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab: Prime Minister orders Navy to move some units for help
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): Over 200 people have been killed by flash floods and bad weather, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces bearing the brunt of the storms, officials said on Thursday. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani telephoned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, twice and expressed his grief over the loss of life and property, caused by heavy rains and flash floods.



Attique takes oath as new AJK Prime Minister
MUZAFFARABAD (July 30, 2010): All Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference's head Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan has sworn Thursday as fourth Prime Minister of AJK during the current tenure of the Legislative Assembly (LA). AJK-President Raja Zulqarnain Khan administered the oath to him in a ceremony held at President House Muzaffarabad, which was attended by politicians, high officials and a number of party workers.



Sabotage cannot be ruled out: Malik
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik said the aspect of terrorism and sabotage in the crash of Airblue Airbus A321 in Margalla Hills can not be ruled out, but the final word will come only after completion of the investigation by technical experts of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).



National Assembly session summoned on August 9
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned the session of the National Assembly on August 9 at 5:00 pm in the Parliament House. The President has summoned the National Assembly Session in exercise of powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 54 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.



Fake degree holders: Senate Chairman asked to take action
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): For the first time, the issue of fake degrees of the Parliamentarians was raised in the Senate and the Chairman was asked to take action under Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution. Sardar Muhammad Jamal Khan Leghari of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) raised the issue on the floor of the House and said that fraud cases could be framed against the Parliamentarians with fake degrees under Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution.



Information Secretary discusses media cooperation with SARFT
BEIJING (July 30, 2010): Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Mansoor Sohail here on Thursday held a detailed meeting with Tian Jin, the Vice-Minister of State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) to expand co-operation in media with emphasis to join hands on three major domains.
