Britain, India call for Pakistan crackdown on militants
NEW DELHI (July 30, 2010): The prime ministers of India and Britain called on Pakistan Thursday to crack down on militant groups operating from its territory. "No-one is in any doubt, least of all the Pakistani government themselves, that there have been and still are terrorist organisations like the LeT and others that need to be cracked down on and eliminated," Britain's David Cameron said.



India's Prime Minister hopeful of restoring Pakistan talks
NEW DELHI (July 30, 2010): India's prime minister said on Thursday he was hopeful of restoring talks "sooner or later" to improve ties with Pakistan after their last meeting ended in acrimony over the 2008 Mumbai attacks. "I sincerely hope that ... we will sooner or later be able to restore the dialogue to give it a proper sense of purpose," Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told reporters.



Afghan president asks why allies won't act on Pakistan
KABUL (July 30, 2010): Afghan President Hamid Karzai questioned on Thursday the willingness of his Western allies to strike insurgent bases in Pakistan given the strong evidence of Islamabad's support for the Taliban. "The war against terrorism is not in the villages or houses of Afghanistan ... but in the sanctuaries, sources of funding and training (of terrorism), and they lie outside Afghanistan," he told a news conference in Kabul.



Karzai's remarks: Pakistan asks envoy to seek clarification from Kabul
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): Pakistan on Thursday asked its Ambassador in Kabul to seek clarification from Afghan government over the anti-Pakistan remarks of President Hamid Karzai, but nothing has been done yet on a similar statement made by British Prime Minister David Cameron the other day in India.



Cameron causes considerable controversy: don't belittle Pakistan's sacrifice, says Prime Minister
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday warned US and its allies, particularly UK, against negating or belittling sacrifices rendered by Pakistan in the war on terror, saying that such an attitude may even harm the on-going war against terrorists and extremists.



Zardari to leave for France on Sunday
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): President Asif Ali Zardari will pay a three day visit to France from August one for wide ranging talks with French leadership on bilateral, regional and global issues. It will be the second important engagement of President Zardari with French leaders following his visit to Paris in May last year.



Outgoing envoy of Denmark calls on Zardari
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): The out-going Ambassador of Denmark in Pakistan Anders C. Hougaard paid a farewell call on President Asif Ali Zardari here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday. The President while talking to the out-going envoy said that Pakistan values its cordial and friendly relations with Denmark and desires to further enhance bilateral co-operation in all fields especially in economic, commercial, trade and investment between the two countries.



UN chief extends condolences
UNITED NATIONS (July 30, 2010): UN chief Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday sent his condolences to Pakistan's prime minister over the deadly crash of a Pakistani airliiner with 152 people on board. "The Secretary General is deeply saddened by the tragic air crash today near Islamabad in which many people lost their lives," a UN statement said. It added that Ban wrote to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to express the sincere sympathy of the world body.



Bus service between IHK, AJK suspended
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): "Carvaan-e-Aman", the weekly-bus service between Indian occupied Kashmir and Azad Kashmir was suspended on Thursday due to landslides. "The bus service between occupied Srinagar and Muzaffarabad was suspended on Thursday, due to landslides at Chakoti in Azad Kashmir," Kashmir Media Service reported. Initially, the bus service was running twice a month but it was made a weekly affair in 2008.



The Americans need Kayani's cooperation
ISLAMABAD (July 30, 2010): As the US searches for an exit from Afghanistan, it is increasingly relying on Pakistan's powerful army chief to help pave the way _ despite fresh allegations that spies under his command have long aided the Taliban. General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani's critical role in the Afghan conflict was reinforced this month when the civilian government extended his term by three years.
